CSS - "Let's Make Love and Listen to Death From Above"
I find getting dressed to be pretty erotic. I think it's something to do with the idea of "suiting up", like somehow our clothes are our only weapons, and every morning we choose the shirt with the most ammo, or the right arc of fire. It's extremely sexy to me to think that someone put on what they're wearing to make me attracted to them. Just their face, as they pick it off the floor wrinkled, and press it against their chest, a tiny smirk, "this'll get 'em." [Buy]
Pink Mountaintops - "The Forest of Sex"
This, however, is a much more accurate representation of how I view sexuality as a whole. Sex is a promise, and not an act. It's a little prayer whispered and squeaked, about bodies and how they fit. So much of it is just a commercial for itself, and when distilled, manifested, finally realised, it's over, because it's wholly anticipation. I don't want it, I just want to want it. So, therefore, this song is sex, and I never knew it could be so soft. [Buy]
Posted by Dan at January 9, 2007 3:29 AMSo one is made up of layers and layers of the poses and norms of modern love ("come and complete me" when I need you to, for fun, so we can tease each other, not meld into each other, because we played so many games to attract each other..), and the other is made up of quiet truth and the natural primordial coming together of two people removed from everything else and stripped naked until they're trembling in their own skins. But human nature has existed unchangingly for far too long, and somehow, both songs sound like they're tired of being sexy.
Posted by soupy peggy at January 9, 2007 6:27 AMCSS seems just a bit too silly and awkward to be actually sexy.
Posted by Jeff at January 9, 2007 7:31 PMthis song is beautiful.i love this band.
Posted by andrew sullivan at January 9, 2007 10:38 PMpeggy - I wouldn't say "tired of being sexy", I would just say that they both share an awareness of how high this ride actually goes, and they have those this-is-all-we-get eyes.
Jeff - being embarrassed by your girlfriend is SO sexy. "too silly". "too awkward". no such things.
